Iran Missiles Hit Near Dubai Airport, Gulf States Intercept Attacks as Conflict Escalates

Dubai/Riyadh/Doha — Tensions across the Middle East continued to escalate as Iran launched fresh missile and drone attacks targeting several countries in the Gulf region, prompting defensive responses and heightened security alerts in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and neighbouring states. The developments come amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel, which has triggered widespread military activity and travel disruptions across the region.

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates confirmed that the country's air defence systems were activated after detecting incoming missile and drone threats from Iran. The UAE's Ministry of Defence said loud sounds heard in some areas were the result of air defence systems intercepting hostile projectiles before they could reach their intended targets.

The latest attacks highlight the expanding scope of the conflict, which has increasingly affected Gulf nations hosting American military facilities or allied infrastructure. In one of the most alarming incidents reported on Wednesday, two drones crashed near Dubai International Airport, injuring four people. Authorities said the drones fell close to the airport perimeter but did not disrupt flight operations. The injured included nationals from India, Bangladesh and Ghana, with one individual reported to have suffered moderate injuries.

Despite the proximity of the incident to one of the world's busiest international airports, officials confirmed that flights continued to operate normally. However, the situation has raised concerns about aviation safety across the Gulf as the conflict intensifies. Airlines and airport authorities have been closely monitoring developments and issuing travel advisories to passengers.

Elsewhere in the region, Saudi Arabia reported that its air defence systems successfully intercepted multiple ballistic missiles and drones aimed at key military facilities. The Saudi Ministry of Defence said six ballistic missiles targeting Prince Sultan Air Base were destroyed mid-air, while two drones were intercepted near the eastern city of Hafar al-Batin.

Qatar also raised its threat level after detecting missile launches toward the country. Officials said their military intercepted the incoming projectiles, urging residents to remain indoors as a precaution while air defence operations were underway.

The growing military exchanges have also disrupted travel across the Middle East. Many international airlines have cancelled or rerouted flights due to airspace restrictions and security concerns, while some airports are operating under heightened alert. Governments have advised travellers to check flight schedules and follow official safety guidance as the situation remains fluid.

Meanwhile, diplomatic tensions continue to rise. The UAE has strongly condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of national sovereignty and international law. Emirati officials have urged the global community to take action against what they described as unprovoked aggression threatening regional stability.

The conflict has also spread beyond the Gulf region. Reports indicate that strikes and military exchanges have occurred in multiple locations across the Middle East, including Iraq and Lebanon. Additionally, maritime security concerns have intensified after a cargo vessel was struck by a projectile in the Persian Gulf, though the crew was reported safe.

International organizations and global powers have called for restraint and a return to diplomatic negotiations to prevent further escalation. Russia has reportedly proposed a United Nations resolution urging all parties involved in the conflict to halt military activities and protect civilian infrastructure.
