Dubai Opens Applications for Dh1.1 Billion Hamdan bin Mohammed Scholarship Programme
Dubai has officially opened applications for the third cycle of the prestigious Hamdan bin Mohammed Scholarship Programme, a major initiative aimed at supporting high-achieving Emirati students in pursuing higher education at top global universities.
Announced by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the programme carries a substantial budget of Dh1.1 billion and is part of Dubai’s long-term vision to invest in its youth and build a highly skilled national workforce. Applications for the 2026–27 academic year are now open and will remain available until June 30, with students required to apply through the Dubai Now app.
Launched in 2024 under the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the scholarship programme is designed to nurture exceptional Emirati talent and prepare future leaders who can contribute to the emirate’s economic and social development.
Each year, the initiative provides 100 fully funded scholarships to outstanding students graduating from both public and private schools in Dubai. These scholarships cover undergraduate studies in leading international universities, allowing recipients to gain global exposure and access world-class education.
The programme is aligned with broader strategic frameworks such as the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and the Dubai Social Agenda 33, both of which emphasise the importance of human capital development as a key driver of future growth. Authorities believe that empowering students with advanced knowledge and skills will play a crucial role in strengthening Dubai’s position as a global hub for innovation and excellence.
One of the defining features of the scholarship is its focus on future-oriented fields of study. Students are encouraged to pursue disciplines that are critical to Dubai’s long-term priorities, including artificial intelligence, computer science, digital technologies, business, finance, medicine, law, and social sciences.
Early results from the programme have already shown promising outcomes. According to KHDA, around 70% of students from previous cohorts are currently enrolled in universities ranked among the top 100 globally. This reflects the programme’s success in attracting and supporting top-tier academic talent from across Dubai.
Beyond financial support, the scholarship also focuses on holistic development. Selected students receive training opportunities aimed at building leadership, entrepreneurial, and specialised skills. The goal is not only to ensure academic success but also to prepare graduates to take on influential roles in both the public and private sectors.
Eligibility criteria for the programme are clearly defined. Applicants must be Emirati students who have recently completed high school within specified academic years and hold a Dubai family book. Additionally, candidates must have secured either a conditional or unconditional offer from an approved university and programme that meets the scholarship’s standards. Students who have already received other scholarships are not eligible to apply.
Officials have also emphasised the importance of family support in helping students succeed in their academic journeys. Encouraging families to actively participate, authorities believe that a strong support system at home can significantly enhance students’ chances of achieving their goals.
The scholarship programme represents a major step in Dubai’s ongoing efforts to develop a knowledge-based economy. By investing heavily in education and talent development, the emirate aims to create a new generation of innovators, professionals, and leaders who can drive sustainable growth in the years ahead.
Education experts note that such initiatives are increasingly important in a rapidly changing global landscape, where countries are competing to build skilled workforces capable of adapting to technological advancements and economic shifts.
With applications now open, the Hamdan bin Mohammed Scholarship Programme offers a valuable opportunity for ambitious Emirati students to access world-class education and contribute meaningfully to their nation’s future. As Dubai continues to prioritise education and innovation, programmes like this are expected to play a central role in shaping the emirate’s long-term success.
