 Burj Khalifa In a remarkable feat, Aakash Nambiar, a 34-year-old Indian ultra-marathoner and environmental advocate, completed a 104km run across Dubai. The initiative, undertaken after COP28, aimed to amplify the message of environmental conservation and individual responsibility.

Diverse Terrains and Landmarks: Burj Khalifa

Starting from Love Lake in Al Qudra at 6:40 am on Saturday, Aakash covered deserts, beaches, and urban areas, including iconic landmarks like Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, and Etihad Museum. The run concluded in front of the Burj Khalifa by midnight.

Throughout his marathon, Aakash engaged with community members, fostering discussions on climate change and sustainable practices. He emphasized the significance of individual actions in reducing emissions and preserving the planet for future generations.

Barefoot Mallu’s Unique Style: Burj Khalifa

Known as the ‘Barefoot Mallu’ for his distinctive barefoot running style, Aakash’s journey was supported by AMSA Healthcare – dialysis and renal care providers based in Dubai. He praised Dubai’s pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and world-class facilities for runners.

Advocacy for Sustainable Living

During the run, Aakash interacted with people, exchanging views on environmental preservation and the UAE’s commitment to net-zero efforts. He encouraged simple initiatives like using steel water bottles and reducing food waste to contribute to climate action.

Unexpected Challenges and Vision for Pedestrian Walkways

Encountering challenges with navigation, Aakash expressed a desire for pedestrian walkways on highways and main roads, envisioning a healthier, more sustainable walking city.

Global Advocacy through Running

This marked Aakash’s second marathon in the UAE, following his 2020 run from Abu Dhabi to Dubai during the pandemic. With a track record of similar campaigns across the globe, from Himalayan mountain passes to Spanish and Portuguese landscapes, Aakash continues to use running as a powerful platform for health, wellbeing, and environmental awareness.
