EcoMark Green The UAE has unveiled groundbreaking plans to create the world’s first-ever sustainability accreditation framework exclusively designed for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The EcoMark Global Accreditation initiative aims to enhance the global competitiveness of MSMEs in the green economy by simplifying and standardizing sustainability benchmarks.

Comprehensive Support for MSMEs

The EcoMark certification, aligned with ISO standards and leveraging digital capabilities, will provide MSMEs with a robust suite of resources. This includes document requirement guidelines, a sustainability progression roadmap, a standardized application process, and complete eligibility criteria for accreditors across participating countries. Oversight of the framework will be centralized in the UAE.

Key Announcement at World Economic Forum

Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, made this significant announcement during a panel discussion titled ‘A New Trade Order: Inclusive Growth’ at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos. The panel emphasized the importance of supporting emerging enterprises, including MSMEs, in meeting the growing consumer demand for environmentally compliant products and services.

Unlocking the Potential of MSMEs: EcoMark Green 

Dr. Al Zeyoudi highlighted the pivotal role MSMEs play in steering the transition toward a lower-carbon economy. Unlocking the potential contribution of MSMEs, particularly those led by underrepresented groups like women and youth, requires tailored support to overcome time, cost, and resource constraints related to environmental regulatory compliance.

EcoMark’s Universal Recognition

“The development of the EcoMark Global Accreditation as an accessible and universally recognized platform will help them both find and compete in new markets around the world, and meet the growing demand for sustainable products and services,” expressed Dr. Al Zeyoudi.

Building on Climate Change Discussions: EcoMark Green 

This announcement builds on the progress made during COP’s first-ever Trade Day held in Dubai, where the UAE hosted discussions on the role of trade in addressing climate change challenges. Dr. Al Zeyoudi emphasized that EcoMark underscores the UAE’s commitment to multilateralism and the desire to provide full and equal access to the global trading system.
