In a stride towards inclusivity, Dubai is extending a warm welcome to tourists with special needs, or people of determination (PoD), offering them free public parking for up to three months. This initiative, confirmed by officials from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), aligns with the privileges already granted to senior Emiratis and PoD residents.
Convenient Application Process
Applying for the complimentary parking privilege has been made seamless through the RTA’s website or app, as well as in-person at any RTA customer happiness centre. The digitalization of free parking permit services since August of the previous year has eliminated the need for PoDs to print and display physical permits, enhancing convenience for visitors.
Temporary Benefit with Three-Month Limit
While the free parking benefit for PoD tourists is undoubtedly a step towards greater inclusivity, it’s essential to note that this privilege is temporary and limited to a duration of three months per application.
Enhanced Mobility: 50% Taxi Fare Discounts
Accessible Transportation for PoDs
In addition to complimentary parking, PoD tourists can avail themselves of a significant 50% discount on taxi fares throughout Dubai. Abdullah Ibrahim Al Meer, the acting Chief Business Transformation Officer at Dubai Taxi Company (DTC), outlines that obtaining a Sanad card, a smart card issued by the Community Development Authority (CDA), is the key to unlocking this reduced fare.
Wider Coverage for Taxi Fare Discounts
DTC recently expanded its coverage for taxi fare discounts, making it accessible to a broader range of users. Unlike the previous restriction to dedicated taxis or those designed for wheelchair users, PoDs, especially those with non-motor disabilities, can now book regular taxis through the DTC App and enjoy the benefits of reduced fares.
DTC: Pioneering Inclusive Transportation: Tourists
Leading Taxi Operator in Dubai
Founded in 1995, Dubai Taxi Company (DTC) stands as the largest taxi operator in Dubai, boasting a fleet of approximately 7,000 taxis and holding a significant 44% market share. The company’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in its efforts to provide accessible and discounted transportation options for all.
Sanad Card Application Process
To unlock the 50% fare discount, PoD tourists must apply for a Sanad card, as emphasized by Al Meer. The validity of Sanad cards for PoD tourists is linked to the duration of their visit, with the application process streamlined through the Community Development Authority (CDA) website.
Dubai’s Ongoing Commitment to Accessibility
This comprehensive initiative underscores Dubai’s dedication to enhancing accessibility and inclusivity for all tourists, reaffirming its position as a destination that values and caters to the diverse needs of its visitors.
