Global Media Battle The Gaza conflict persists as an “unprecedented human disaster,” with a significant aspect being the “global media war,” according to Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, the UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs. Speaking at the Arab Strategy Forum in Dubai, Gergawi emphasized that the war extends beyond the battlefield, with the media playing a pivotal role in determining the outcome. He underscored the importance of a compelling narrative in the current landscape, stating, “Today, war is not won on the battlefield but rather in the media field.”

Regional Concerns and Risk of Escalation: Global Media Battle

Another speaker at the event, Dr. Ghassan Salamé, expressed concerns about the Israel-Hamas conflict potentially spilling over into other regions. Dr. Ghassan, the former Lebanese minister and Founding Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs, highlighted the possibility of a longer war, particularly involving Lebanon and the West Bank. He pointed to increased Israeli attacks in Lebanon and the potential for additional factions to enter the conflict. The recent assassination of Saleh Al-Arouri in Lebanon, according to Dr. Ghassan, suggests a heightened risk of self-defense actions.

Leaders’ Calls for Resolution: Global Media Battle

Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi recalled the persistent calls from world leaders, including His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, for a just solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict. He referenced a speech by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2004, emphasizing the continued urgency of addressing the issue.

Double Standards and Human Values: Global Media Battle

Gergawi criticized the double standards prevailing in the international community, particularly regarding basic human values and the protection of human lives, children, and their right to safety. He highlighted the discrepancy in the application of human rights standards based on international agendas.

Two-State Solution and Accusations Against Western Powers: Global Media Battle

Dr. Ghassan challenged the sincerity of the US and Western powers in advocating for the two-state solution, accusing them of lacking commitment. He questioned the actions taken by states supporting this solution in the past decade and accused the US of hindering regional development by supporting Israel and vetoing ceasefire-related decisions.

The Arab Strategy Forum, an annual platform providing insights into regional trends, has been a significant conference for 23 years. The discussions at the forum shed light on ongoing conflicts, concerns about regional escalation, and the complex dynamics surrounding the Israel-Hamas war.
