UAE Braces for Dual Waves of Unstable Weather on Tuesday

Residents of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah are urged to brace themselves for inclement weather over the next 48 hours, as heavy rainfall is anticipated across these regions.

According to an expert from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) speaking to Khaleej Times, the impending weather conditions are expected to unfold with the potential for significant rainfall and even hailstorms in areas such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, as well as other emirates. The expert noted that convective cloud formations are currently underway and are expected to intensify in the coming hours, with rainfall already beginning in certain coastal areas of the UAE.

The weather is anticipated to deteriorate throughout the day, with thunderclouds and strong winds enveloping the region, leading to reduced visibility particularly in the eastern parts of the country. Notably, Abu Dhabi has already experienced wind speeds of up to 1,000 km/hr.

The upcoming weather disturbances are attributed to two unstable weather waves. The initial wave is expected to persist until Tuesday morning, followed by a subsequent wave that will gradually progress from the western region of the UAE towards Abu Dhabi later on Tuesday afternoon. By evening, this secondary wave is forecasted to extend to the northern and eastern regions of the UAE, including Al Ain.

It is noteworthy that Oman has also experienced unstable weather conditions in recent days, with authorities issuing weather alerts for residents. The expert explained that the same low-pressure system impacting Oman is also influencing the UAE, albeit with varying intensities due to differences in topography. Oman’s extensive Hajar mountain ranges contribute to more cloud cover and rainfall compared to the UAE.

In light of the anticipated weather conditions, the UAE’s Meteorology center has issued an advisory for thunderstorms in various parts of the country. Residents, particularly motorists, are advised to exercise caution as heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging, while flooding is anticipated in the Wadi area. There is also a risk of landslides in the northern and eastern regions near the mountains.

Meanwhile, in Ras Al Khaimah, the Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Team has decided to transition schools to remote learning for Tuesday and Wednesday. Additionally, the RAK Public Services Department has announced the temporary closure of all parks and beaches within the city until further notice.

As the day progresses into the evening, the weather situation is expected to escalate further, with unstable weather conditions beginning in the western areas and moving towards Abu Dhabi, the northern, and eastern regions. This escalation is anticipated to bring about a decrease in temperature along with lightning, thunder, and the possibility of hail in some areas.

This meteorological event is driven by two unstable weather waves. The first wave is anticipated to persist until Tuesday morning, followed by a subsequent wave advancing from the western region towards Abu Dhabi by Tuesday afternoon. As the day unfolds, this secondary wave is expected to extend its influence to the northern and eastern regions, including Al Ain.

It’s worth noting that neighboring Oman has also been grappling with unstable weather conditions in recent days, prompting authorities to issue weather alerts. The expert explained that the UAE is similarly affected by the same low-pressure system impacting Oman, albeit with varying intensities due to differences in topography. Oman’s extensive Hajar mountain ranges contribute to heightened cloud cover and rainfall compared to the UAE.

In response to the anticipated weather conditions, the UAE’s Meteorology center has issued a precautionary advisory for thunderstorms in various parts of the country. Residents, especially motorists, are urged to exercise caution as heavy rainfall may result in waterlogging, while flooding is expected in Wadi areas. Moreover, there’s a risk of landslides in mountainous regions of the northern and eastern Emirates.
